Students develop essential research skills through an independent research project. There are no compulsory elements of this course that entail additional costs beyond fees and living costs. However, as part of your course requirements, you may need to choose a dissertation, a project or a thesis topic.
Please note that, depending on your choice of topic and the research required to complete it, you may incur additional expenses, such as travel expenses, research expenses, and field trips. You will need to meet these additional costs, although you may be able to apply for small grants from your department and/or college to help you cover some of these expenses. In addition to offering our medical degree and course in sports science, Lancaster Medical School conducts research into biomedicine, social and ethical aspects of health and medicine, and medical education. The programme consists of compulsory modules which cover sports injury; lower limb; upper limb; head, neck and spine; advanced sports injury, exercise physiology, health and physical activity and research methods.
These deadlines apply to applications for courses starting in Michaelmas 2022, Lent 2023 and Easter 2023. Students complete three essays over the course of 9 months, working closely with supervisors to address a range of topics covered by the core and optional modules. They will also write a dissertation on a topic of their choice, refined in consultation with their supervisor. Dissertation seminars give students the opportunity to gain experience in presenting their own work and discussing the issues that arise from it with an audience of their peers and senior members of staff.
